and there's nothing like amother's love. we are so excited.we wanted to get an early start on this. happymothers day everyone. yes, happy mothers day. i'm julie moran.and i'm olga villaverde. welcome to the balancing act. we have avery special show planned for today. it's our one in a millionmothers day special, but wait, there's more. there is alwaysmore. we're gonna introduce you to 2 extraordinary moms, andthen. and then. and then you'll just have to stick around formore. it all starts right now.
musicolga, you and i are so blessed to have such phenomenalmoms who are still such a big part of our lives. amen to that.and both of us are 3 generations in. yes. now we know thatmothers come in so many different forms. the traditionalmom, the aunt, grandmother, sister, even neighbor or friend.so here's to all of the amazing people who have been in thisrole in one way or another. take a look. (music) being a momgives you a purpose like no other. so much love andhappiness. it rocks. your life
like gets busy and it's getexhausting, but i think when i'm with my children it's alwayskind of a blessing. an exhausting blessing, but it's ablessing. it is wonderful, and challenging. your little girlswill only be little girls for so long. they bring you a lot ofpride, lot of joy. she's a good mom. my mom is a hero becauseshe's always giving me advice and trying to keep me protected.everything i've learned, i've learned from her. my mom was afoster mom for 53 kids. there was always love in the house. itwas - we could be ourselves. i
think the advice my mom hasgiven me is just to always be myself. i mean my mom definitelyhas always taught me to be considerate of others and to begiving and charitable, and just to be caring about other people.and kind and so i definitely try to pass that on. just be happywith life wherever you are. happy mothers day mom. happymothers day! happy mothers day! happy mothers day mom! happymothers day mom! we love you mommy, happy mothers day. keepdoing what you're doing. you're doing it. i'm very proud of you.dad's very proud of you. thank
you mom. let's be honest. allmoms deserve to be saluted. right. absolutely. and speakingof which, when we return you're gonna meet 2 very special moms.and in the meantime, here are some of our brandstar colleaguesand their moms. stay with us. musicwe recently cast a wide net askingyou to nominate moms for a one in a million mom sweepstakes.and we want to thank everyone who submitted entries, but it'sa tough call. we narrowed it down to 2 incredible, deservingladies. we're gonna start with a
single mom, raising a beautiful, special needs daughter. take a look. it is a responsibility alot bigger than anybody could have ever imagined. you're usedto living for yourself and now you are responsible for thisother human being that depends solely on you. so it's the mostunbelievable sensation because you cannot love anything oranyone more than what you love your children. it'sindescribable. words from an amazing mother, and it's a titlethat 31 year old, carolina menasche, a single mother, doesn't take lightly. her only
child, maya, is 6 years old.maya has asd, which is autism spectrum disorder. there's no 2cases alike. maya was diagnosed at age 18 months. usually in thestates, we don't diagnose kids until they're 3. there was ahuge advantage to that, because we were, we targeted therapiesfrom day one. carolina says it was a long road to get mayawhere she is today. one filled with behavioral coaches andother therapies. but it's paying off. she's come such a long way.she was nonverbal for about 4 years, and now we have probably7 word sentences which is a huge
advantage. her motor skills arenot exactly the, you know, in tune with her age. and herbehavior is, has, needs a lot of work. she's joyful, she's alwayshappy. she is very very social now, and she's just talks up astorm, doesn't really shut up anymore. so it's very rewarding, extremely rewarding. apple. no, she wanted chocolate bread, shesaid. from the beginning, from the second that she found outthat maya had a disability, she just began to, to work on it.and therapies 5 days a week. she had her on a personal one on onetherapist, an ot every single
day. the amount of money, theamount of time, that she spends to make sure that maya gets towhere she needs to be is unbelievable. by the way, jessica nominated carolina for this mothers day tribute. it wassomething i did because she's never recognized for anythingand all her hard work, everything she does for ourfamily, for me, my little sister. she's always been thereto give and she never receives. carolina is an amazing daughter.carolina's mother moved in with her about a year ago, followinga divorce. obviously, she's a
welcomed addition to her supportgroup. mom, is incredibly smart. she is the best cooker you'llever find. very spiritual. very very kind hearted, and verygiving as well. and i don't know how she raised 3 kids becauseit's so hard with one. so i have no idea how she did it. besidesfamily, carolina's other top priority is her job. cansomebody give me an update of where we stand as far as theclosed cases for workers comp? she's the office manager at amajor law firm. as the office manager, she's responsible forstaff and making sure everything
runs smoothly here in theoffice. and we're 60 people. but in addition to that it's veryimportant to the firm and really to carolina and myself that weget involved in a lot of charities. and so we, and sheruns it all. i think carolina really serves as a role model,as a mother, and a working mother. with such jobresponsibilities as an office manager and at the same time, everybody knows that maya is very very important in her life, and she does a balancing between the two parts of her life verywell, and really is role model
to all of our other staffmembers. even before she gets to the office, carolina revs up thestart of her day with fitness. i wake up at 5:00 in the morningand i go to the gym from about 5:15 to 6:30. and that isreally, for me it's indispensable. if i don't havethat, there's no outlet. you need some me time. you needalone time cause you're never alone when you have little one.i saw bird last night. yeh, i remember you saw a bird atnight. i want her to be able to be independent at some point. idon't mind living with her my
whole life, but when i'm gone, iwant her to be able to be a functioning member of societyand be able to support herself. now she has me only, so i wannamake sure that when i'm gone, she's gonna be ok. god has aplan and if he gave it to you they say you can handle it. giveit all you've got. i don't know what else you can just breathein and take it in and move forward. sometime you'll getsomething that's so rewarding when you see your daughter takea step forward and it's just extremely rewarding. wow, what abeautiful story. what a
beautiful mom and daughter. godbless them. and our next mom who has always been a giver, nowfinds herself in need. (blackout) god please, we prayfor the pet scan that there would be a good result fromthat. heal christie's body. pray that we can all continue to putour faith in you and pray in jesus' name, amen. amen. faithruns deep in the christie voss household. faith is veryimportant, praying is very important. and as christie willtell you, she is relying on them both. to help her through thebiggest battle of her life. it
started out with an injury. ihad dropped a box of books onto my breast, and a lump popped up.so i was monitoring it, i had it checked out. and then a yearlater i had started to change and when i went back to check ithad already been progressed to stage iv. doctors diagnosedchristie with stage iv breast cancer last august. originally iwas diagnosed it was very aggressive and spreadingrapidly. they estimated within a year, you know if i did nothing, that that's kinda what they gave me. the 40 year old christie, asingle mother, leaped into
action. her prioritiesnaturally, her health and of course, her 2 young, adorabledaughters. eight year old sophia and emily who is ten. so fordinner tonight we're gonna have fish and brussel sprouts, lentils. could we have extra brussel sprouts? sure. and lessfish? christie, who was raised on a farm has always eaten ahealthy diet. she's also always educated others on good healthand wellness. so naturally she took the non-traditional,holistic approach to fight her cancer with a focus on cleaneating. the diet is mostly, has
several different names,anti-cancer diet, would be a more general name, ketogenicdiet is what i'm really striving for, which is no carbs, nosugar, which feeds the cancer. the girls love all of thevegetables and they wanna see me succeed, so they're like mylittle cheerleaders. you know, they're cheerleading mommy, yougotta do this mommy. mommy you didn't do that. mommy don't eatthat, that's gonna feed the cancer. so i'm still trying tofind a really good support group as far as doctors go, that canmonitor me. so i don't really
wanna do it alone. i wanna do itwith people that have experience. doctors aside, personally christie already has in place her own support group.her own village. it consists of her personal family, her churchfamily, friends, and the community. i grew up in a smalltown, on a farm. it was really about community and so i thinkthat portrays a lot in my daily activities. i'm alwaysvolunteering, and involved in my community. i wanna sense ofcommunity for my girls. christie is grateful that her brother, michael, and his family live
nearby. growing up she's alwaysbeen, almost like a second mother to me. in guiding me andleading me and just being supportive of different things.and christie's giving spirit led her to meeting a woman a fewyears ago who is now one of her closest friends. i haven't mettoo many young people like christie. young mothers who areso dedicated. when she called me and told me she was sick, i wasjust, i thought oh my god. you know, but i was there for her. iwanted to do anything i could to help her and this wonderfulyoung woman who i admired so.
she's now become a hero. oh yeh,you can put flowers in my hair. you're gonna do that, decoratemy hair. she's smart, she's brilliant, she's helpful, andshe's loving. she spends a lot of time with us and she loves usa lot and she takes us like to so many different places. andshe's just really neat. and yes the girls are aware of mommy'sillness. so i try to keep it open with them and talk to thembluntly about things so that they're aware and then theybring up questions when they're ready. but i definitely want, you know, if if this doesn't
work in my favor, i definitelywant them to be as ready as they can to be successful, whole, adult women. for the projects are scheduled for monday andyou'll have all the files for monday to review. christie worksfrom home as a graphic designer. just recently she went ondisability, limiting her work schedule dramatically. i cannotcontinue to work and take care of my kids and take care ofmyself and heal. i would like to be there to watch my girls growup and see them get married and be off. so i have to stop andfocus on myself and figure out
what my path is. christie'salways been on a path, helping others. and now it's time forher to be on the receiving end. presently i feel amazing. i feelstrong. i feel a lot more energy. i feel a lot of hope andfaith. christie's most recent test results show the cancer hasgrown by a bit, which she says won't deter her. she continuesto press forward. meeting with doctors, seeking information andfinancial support to help her fight the good fight. it is veryexpensive, which i read early on. they said whether you gotraditional or you decide to go
holistic, it's expensive. so ido have a "go fund me" that i'm raising money, and that's howi've been paying for everything. people have been so wonderfuland kind. i can't tell you, there's no money value to thatkind of compassion and love, when people throw that your way.there's nobody i know of, from here to alaska, who would bemore than deserving of this then christie. and just like thevoss' family day usually begins, it also ends, with prayer.(unintelligible child prayer) amen. amen. i wanna tell youthis, christie touched every
single person she came intocontact with and we just send you all of our blessings. twopowerful stories. absolutely. it's almost time to meet thesesuper women in person. can't wait, stay right there. we'll beright back. musicwelcome back. it is that time. time to meet the winnersof our one in a million mom sweepstakes. they're christievoss and carolina menasche! we're so glad to have you guyson set. ladies - congratulations on winning our sweepstakes. youknow i'm so happy for you. julie
